The Lovebirds Trailer: Kumail Nanjiani & Issa Rae Rock the Action Comedy

Kumail Nanjiani has been on a steady rise for some time, but it truly started accelerating with his powerful and comedic turn in The Big Sick. The Oscar nominated flick has served as a starting point, if you will, for an ascension into the Hollywood A-list with work in Silicon Valley, Stuber and his hilarious voice acting turns in Men in Black: International and the now in theaters, Doolittle. His latest flick has premiered its first trailer and should do nothing to slow down his meteoric rise.

Nanjiani and comedienne Issa Rae star as The Lovebirds. The pair are firmly in the downtown part of the love affair where it is all roses and candy and all one wants to do is spend every single second with your other half. Sadly, for Rae and Nanjiani, just as they’re uttering their “I love yous” for the first time with power, they get carjacked, someone gets murdered and they flee the scene of the crime. Suddenly, they’re wanted criminals and they see the only way out of it is to, naturally, solve the murder themselves.

Paramount Pictures has released the below trailer for the April 3 arriving action comedy and for fans of both comedians and the milieu in which this film firmly sits, you might want to put that date on the calendar. Although, comedies are struggling to find an audience of late at the box office. With fans deciding to stay home rather than venture out—thus why Stuber was a box office disappointment. There are so many streaming services offering comedic content that is becoming increasingly more difficult for comedies at the cinema to break through. Hopefully, The Lovebirds can break through. On pedigree alone, it looks top notch.

Chemistry in an action comedy is key and Rae and Nanjiani have that in spades, at least from what we can discern from this short trailer.
