There is something about the movie Uncle Drew, that has charmed us completely. The film stars a series of retired basketball pros — like Shaquille O’Neal, Reggie Miller, Nate Robinson, Chris Webber and Lisa Leslie — and one current professional, Boston Celtics superstar Kyrie Irving as way over the hill b-ball players brought together by Lil Rel Howery’s character to compete in the street ball championship of all championships.
Lionsgate has released the film’s latest poster and trailer for the upcoming June 29 release.
Irving is the title character and as we learn in the teaser and we suspect the first act of the film itself, is one of the most iconic street ball players in history. When Howery loses his team for the annual tourney, he is desperate. Inspiration shows itself in the most unlikely of places.
Tiffany Haddish stars as Howery’s sister and is looking to continue her hot streak after her career-making turn in Girls Trip. Nick Kroll stars as Howery’s rival, and Haddish’s boyfriend. That ought to make for some laughs.
The Rucker Classic streetball tournament in Harlem is everything to Dax (Howery). Seeking redemption and frankly, that cash prize, he unveils his aged assault on the younger folks and it appears they will take them to (old) school.
