Back in March, Walt Disney gave us our first look of Emily Blunt as the iconic character Mary Poppins in the wildly anticipated sequel, Mary Poppins Returns. But, it was only from the back, and included a gander at the nanny’s legendary umbrella.
Now, Entertainment Weekly has revealed a series of photos that give us our first true feel of how the world of Mary Poppins continues.
Included in the set is the EW cover which finds Blunt impeccably cast to figuratively step into the historic shoes first worn by Julie Andrews in the 1964 musical masterpiece. Also seen is Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda (Moana, Hamilton) rehearsing with Blunt and the cast, our first glance at Ben Whishaw and Emily Watson.
Mary Poppins Returns also stars a couple of Oscar winners in Meryl Streep and Colin Firth. It is directed by Rob Marshall (Oscar-winning Chicago).
The film will introduce us to three new Banks children and how their need for a little magical guidance could not come at a better time for Ms. Poppins to show up. It’s set in Depression-era London and follows one of the many stories that PL Travers gifted to the world decades ago. Adding to the cast of all-stars is Angela Lansbury and Dick Van Dyke as Mr. Dawes Jr., the chairman of Fidelity Fiduciary Bank.
Get ready to soar when Mary Poppins Returns hits theaters December 25, 2018.
