Dune Trailer: Science Fiction Epic Finally Looks Like It Gets Its Cinematic Due

The latest Dune trailer is absolutely the greatest Dune trailer. The highly anticipated Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049, Prisoners, Arrival) directed remake of the 80s film based on the book(s) by Frank Herbert appears to have the budget, the star power, and the tone that was sorely missing from the Decade of Decadence version.

Dune stars Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, a prince who makes his way to the desert planet of Arrakis. His mission stems from dreams he has been having, also he is there to protect the resource that is the most valuable in the universe, a spice known as “Melange.”

Also, in his dreams is Zendaya’s Chani, who complicates things, to put it mildly.

Dune features an all-star cast including Josh Brolin, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, and Glossu Rabban.

Look for Dune, which is the first half of Herbert’s book (I smell a sequel!), when it hits theaters and HBO Max on October 22.

The official synopsis:

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence–a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential–only those who can conquer their fear will survive.
