Daniel Craig and James Bond came back to theaters and audiences turned out in droves to see Spectre. The fourth Craig film as 007 banked an impressive $73 million for one of the bigger openings of 2015. The film, in fact, opened at number one in every country where it premiered, making it the number one movie in the world with a global gross of $300 million.
It should stay number one again next week, but look for it to be bumped the week after when The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 opens.
Finishing a strong second was the first big screen CG animated take on the beloved series from Charles Schulz. The Peanuts Movie opened to $45 million, an enormous opening for an animated movie (or any film for that matter!). Think we’ll get a sequel? Bet on it.
Third place found the Matt Damon-Ridley Scott blockbuster The Martian, which added another $9.3 million to its total of $197.1 million. Look for it to go over the $200 million mark next week and all but assure itself a spot on the Best Picture list come Oscar time.
Goosebumps landed in fourth with $7 million and closing out the top five was the Steven Spielberg-Tom Hanks drama Bridge of Spies with $6.1 million.
