This fourth phase of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe is shaping up quite nicely. That point backed up by the stellar new trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
One of the first things that pop is that the film’s moniker is illustrated throughout, specifically the way that Tony Leung, who plays Wenwu, works with those 10 rings of the title. What’s fascinating is that this character has gone by a myriad of names, including The Mandarin—the character “played” by Ben Kingsley in Iron Man 3.
Filling out the cast is Awkwafina (Ocean’s 8), Michelle Yeoh, Meng’er Zhang, Fala Chen, Ronny Chieng and Florian Munteanu. Behind the camera is Destin Daniel Cretton (Short Term 12), who also co-wrote the script with Dave Callaham.
There’s a whole lotta Marvel coming our way after being noticeably absent these last few years. Sure, it’ll be easy to blame in on the pandemic, but let’s be real. Marvel is starting Phase Four of the MCU and it is shaping up to be one heck of a ride and more than worth the wait.
Black Widow hits theaters in July, with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings following her in September. There’s also Eternals in November and Spider-Man: No Way Home in December.
