The first full trailer for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is here and it is everything we expected it would be and so much more.
This is a kind of follow-up to the 2016 Suicide Squad that was directed by David Ayer. It has some of the same characters but introduces a new bevy of baddies controlled by Viola Davis and led by Joel Kinnaman.
One person we’re thrilled is back, after her solo features Birds of Prey, is Harley Quinn. The opening rescue mission concludes in the trailer in such a way that is pure Quinn as played by Margot Robbie. She’s just priceless. Also back is Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang,
We also meet a new cast of characters, led by Idris Elba’s Bloodsport, King Shark (voiced by Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. II star Sly Stallone), Michael Rooker (also a Guardians vet) as Savant, Alice Braga is SolSoria, Pete Davidson is the Bodyguard, and we even get to see a moment of James’ brother Sean Gunn, who plays Weasel—and let’s just say he looks the part.
Then, there is John Cena, who makes a triumphant DC Comics debut as Peacemaker. Just judging by this trailer alone, the man has serious comedic timing chops. I can’t wait to see this movie.
Look for Suicide Squad to hit theaters and HBO Max on the same day, August 6.
