Venom Trailer: That Power, Is Not Completely Awful

The latest Venom trailer has landed and finds the Ruben Fleischer directed Spider-Man spin-off teasing more of the Tom Hardy starring flick than the first one.

It’s an interesting premise. As news of the Joaquin Phoenix Joker movie getting green lit permeates, we get a look at this first film featuring Spidey’s villain getting his own feature. I guess in the age of Suicide Squad, it’s fair game to give the baddies their own franchise.

Whether this will work or not is still TBD. After all, that old superhero saying, “a film is only as good as its villain” gets tossed into the wind when all a film has is a villain. But, Hardy is one of the greatest actors working today and we don’t think he would have signed up for this flick if it was a mess. Just saying…

Speaking of great actors, Oscar winner Michelle Williams also stars, as does Riz Ahmed as the evil Riot—another symbiote (what Venom is) who will go toe-to-toe with the titular character in a battle that promises to be epic.

What else is striking from this latest trailer is the tonal voice that Hardy chooses. He is famous for taking his vocal talents to new places for his work. Recall the tone he took with Bane? Listen up in the trailer above for a whole, new level of Hardy uniqueness for his take on Venom.

Look to go deep into the Marvel world when Venom arrives in theaters October 5.
