Creed 2 Trailer: Michael B. Jordan Fights A Familiar Name

The first Creed 2 trailer and poster have landed, and each reminds us why Michael B. Jordan was such a casting coup when he was chosen to take the title role.

As was the case with the first Creed, this is a boxing film masquerading as something much more. In fact, the last film (from Black Panther helmer Ryan Coogler), was so powerful beyond the boxing brilliance that it saw star Sylvester Stallone score an Oscar nod for Best Supporting Actor.

This time out, the drama is strong as it focuses on the Creed family and of course—Sly’s Rocky Balboa is still ever-present as the fighter’s trainer and confidant.

What else is to love about this first trailer? It features DNA by recent Pulitzer Prize winner, Kendrick Lamar!

The film is directed this time out by Steven Caple Jr., from a screenplay by Sylvester Stallone and Cheo Hodari. Keep in mind, Stallone won and Oscar for his screenplay for the first Rocky. Coogler remains on board as one of the executive producers.

That familiar name that Creed is battling… well, it’s the son of the boxer who killed Creed’s father. Yeah… that ought to be interesting.

Phylicia Rashad returns as Mary Anne (that’s fantastic news and judging by this trailer we bet she has an expanded role). Creed 2 also stars Andre Ward, Wood Harris and Russell Hornsby. Look to get back into the ring on November 21.
