Fate had a lot to do with bringing the stellar ensemble together that comprises the cast of The Promise. Director Terry George tells us in our exclusive video interview about how fate had a lot to do with the entire production for his latest film from the helmer who is no stranger to bringing atrocities to the screen — such as his Oscar nominated work on Hotel Rwanda.
The Promise is set during the last days of the Ottoman Empire. A political vacuum was sweeping over the area just as World War I was about to break out and engulf the entire continent in battle. It follows the horrors of the Armenian genocide at the hands of the Turkish government and does so in such a way that gets its powerful message across about the evils that humans can do to one another, all while engrossing its audience in a sweeping romantic love triangle.
The film stars Oscar Isaac, Christian Bale, Charlotte Le Bon, Angela Sarafyan, Shohreh Aghdashloo and James Cromwell and lands in theaters this Friday, April 21.
In our interview above, George intently talks about why this project was one he had to make and even though it dealt with a subject matter that was completely foreign to Hollywood and sheds light on his stellar cast and their collective mission to do right by all those who perished a century ago.
