Passengers: Cast and Crew Chat Sci-Fi Romantic-Thriller

In Passengers, Earth is actually doing just fine. It’s not one of those sci-fi films where the planet is exhausted and humans are scoping out other livable planets for the sustaining of the human species. Humans are aboard this ship that takes 90 years to get where it’s going because they want to be explorers, to build a new life in a new place where everyone gets a fresh start.

Two of those Passengers are Chris Pratt’s Jim and Jennifer Lawrence’s Aurora. The two meet when the most extraordinary things happens. Jim wakes up 30 years into the 90 years into the frozen-in-time sleep. After spending a year alone, Aurora wakes up and gives Jim some company, and the two fall in love… except, a little something happens that puts a divide between the two. Also, the fact that the ship is having problems presents its own challenge.

To help things is the robot bartender, played by Michael Sheen. Who is not only good at pouring a drink to ease the long days of flying through space 60 years before they were supposed to wake up, but he also provides companionship and advice to our two awakened Passengers.

The Movie Mensch attended a press conference for Passengers featuring Lawrence, Sheen, Pratt, as well as director Morten Tyldum and writer Jon Spaihts.

Check out their insightful thoughts on the film, humorous anecdotes to the filmmaking and some surprising facts about the making of a sci-fi romance that has a scope bigger than any film like it prior.

Passengers is in theaters this Christmas.
