Walt Disney and Lucasfilm has unveiled the long-awaited title for its eighth installment in the Star Wars series. The Rian Johnson directed film will be called… The Last Jedi. Dum…dum…dum!
One can almost hear the famous Star Wars fanfare playing simply hearing the title for the first time! It is an ominous title, to say the least… but it also gives us lots of questions.
First of all, who is The Last Jedi?
Is it Luke Skywalker? Perhaps…
Is it Daisy Ridley’s Rey? Maybe… she did show signs of having The Force in The Force Awakens.
One thing is for sure… anticipation for the latest Star Wars adventure just went up a few notches with today’s announcement.
It also is a haunting title in that if there really is a “last” Jedi, this is an end of an era and given that the “final” Star Wars film is Episode IX, could the Jedis be done with their work once and for all with the close of this series?
The Last Jedi will star Mark Hamill, the late Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Ridley, John Boyega, Lupita Nyong’o, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie and Andy Serkis. Joining the cast is Oscar winner Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and a newcomer named Kelly Marie Tran.
Look for The Last Jedi on December 15, 2017.
