The first official trailer for Space Jam: A New Legacy, starring LeBron James and Bugs Bunny, has arrived. It’s time to play ball, people!
If you remember the first Space Jam, it found Michael Jordan pairing with Bugs Bunny and the rest of the WB cartoon cadre as they took to the basketball court to do battle with an alien team.
This time out, there’s a little more at stake than the first one. As the trailer below details, James’ (onscreen) son is taken by the aliens and the only way to get him back is to play a game of basketball with Daffy, Bugs and the gang against the alien thugs.
Our immediate takeaway from the teaser is this has a different feel than the Jordan Space Jam and that’s a good thing. For one, there are some references to other WB properties, including Mad Max and even King Kong!
The other takeaway is this film’s script (from Juel Taylor, Tony Rettenmaier, Kennan Coogler, and Terence Nance) must have struck a chord because the director is Malcolm L. Lee (Girls Trip), who is Mr. In-Demand!
Space Jam: A New Legacy lands in theaters and HBO Max on the same day, July 16.
