Ryan Gosling wasted no time in reuniting with his La La Land director, Damien Chazelle. The triumphant tandem’s latest film, First Man, has unveiled its first trailer and it is stunning.
Considering the subject of the tale, the Gosling and Chazelle pairing may be merely the tip of the iceberg that has audiences heading to the theaters in droves when First Man debuts October 12.
The film chronicles Neil Armstrong’s journey from supremely talented test pilot to astronaut who became a historical icon by being the first man to walk on the moon. What is so striking about the teaser below shines a spotlight on something that history tends to have forgotten. The danger involved in what Armstrong and his fellow astronauts achieved was palpable. Since the mission was such a supreme success, it’s easy to forget the fear and apprehension of all involved wondering if after takeoff, whether they would return home. That aspect is front and center in the trailer, particularly from Armstrong’s family as his son asks him in one scene whether he will be back.
Gosling is joined by another thespian who is just killing it lately. Claire Foy (Unsane, The Crown) stars as Armstrong’s wife Janet. The cast also includes Patrick Fugit (Almost Famous), Kyle Chandler (Game Night), Jason Clarke (Chappaquiddick), Ciaran Hinds, Shea Whigham, Corey Stoll and Ethan Embry.
