It’s quite the Star Wars week, isn’t it? First we had the debut of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Blu-Ray and now we have our first look at the next film coming from Lucasfilm, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Disney and Lucasilm has unveiled the first teaser trailer for the highly anticipated so-called stand-alone film from director Gareth Edwards (Godzilla). It takes place in the time period before Episode IV, aka A New Hope. From what we can glean, it tells the tale of how the rebels got their hands on that Death Star plan that (then) Princess Leia would use to find a weak spot that you-know-who would eventually blow up at the end of that first Star Wars film that landed in 1977.
If you ask The Movie Mensch, this is a fantastic idea for the first stand-alone film that was promised with Disney bought Lucasfilm several years back. A heist film can be a thrill ride, simply inherent in its nature and taking us inside how the rebels got their hands on those plans that Leia described as “many died” trying to obtain… is going to be a sure fire thrill-a-minute.
Felicity Jones is our lead, and whose introduction in this first teaser trailer has us thinking that Star Wars and strong female characters that our little girls (and big girls) and look up to is absolutely continuing. Jones is joined by Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk and Forest Whitaker.
Look for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to hit theaters December 16.
