Shazam! Trailer Premieres at Comic-Con: What’s Up? I’m a Superhero!

It is so fitting that Kendrick Lamar’s Be Humble is the song chosen to accompany the first trailer for DC Comic’s Shazam! Watch the teaser below and witness the irony of that song providing the musical background for the comic book fave’s first foray into the cinema. The film is about a teenage kid who suddenly acquires a slew of superpowers.

Know many teens getting superhero powers that would be humble?!

But that is exactly the tone that Warner Bros. and DC are going for with this effort that (finally) brings one of the comic book universe’s most beloved characters to the world’s cinemas.

We’ve always appreciated Zachary Levi (his Chuck is must-binge TV if you’ve missed it) and it is supremely awesome that the actor has gotten himself a comic book movie franchise to show the world his unique brand of talents. He can be funny, and he can also command the action scene, as his NBC television show proved.

This is certainly a much lighter tone than DC has exhibited on the screen. It appears funny, extremely self-aware and is leagues away from… well, Justice League and the other Zach Snyder produced films with a penchant for going shady.

Although we see little of Djimon Hounsou‘s Wizard and Mark Strong‘s Dr. Thaddeus Sivana in the teaser, with the latter serving as our villain, but look for more footage from those folks in upcoming teasers.

Prepare to shout Shazam! when the flick introduces the world to the beloved character on April 5.
