Papillon Trailer: Charlie Hunnam Launches a Prison Break

One of my 18 most anticipated summer movies, Papillon has unveiled its first trailer. It has done nothing but increase anticipation for this latest adaptation of the iconic book of the same name.

Charlie Hunnam plays the title character, an individual who is wrongly charged with murder and sent to a desolate French prison camp. It is there he meets up with Rami Malek (soon to be seen in Bohemian Rhapsody), and the two forget plan to get off this prison island and make their way to freedom.

After the work Hunnam did in 2016’s The Lost City of Z, I cannot wait to see what the star does with this period piece. The true tale of Henri Charrière‘s time in the French prison system and eventual New Guinea penal colony. The novel from which this story came is a stunner, a real page-turner that to this day is one of my favorites. The 1973 movie, starring Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman is a classic.

From early indications, Papillon 2018 is likely to join it in that department.

The thrill ride is helmed by Michael Noer and also stars Roland Moller, Eve Hewson, Tommy Flanagan and Yorick Van Wageningen. Look for it on August 24.
