The fact that the character first played by Ryan Reynolds in a Wolverine movie would get his own movie was never a given. When footage leaked of a test shoot with Reynolds for his own Deadpool movie, it went viral and the world could not seem to get enough of the Merc with a Mouth.

Now that we have the first trailer, The Movie Mensch is all sorts of verklempt for the film that is hitting theaters February 12, 2016. Reynolds is born to play a superhero and we’re thrilled that the misstep that was not his fault, The Green Lantern, didn’t cost him a chance to return to the Deadpool suit. Check out the trailer below where he even references the green suit that’s animated! Talk about a sense of humor.

That’s one of the reasons we adore the character of Deadpool — his sick sense of humor. And that is all over this first trailer.

Reynolds is joined in the cast by Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Ed Skrein, Brianna Hildebrand, and Gina Cyrano, and Fox has also released the film’s official synopsis:

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
