Since Ex Machina faded from cinemas after its triumphant and mind-blowing run, attention turned to what writer-director Alex Garland would do next. When news struck that he was tackling Jeff VanderMeer’s haunting novel Annihilation, well, we could not wait to see what Garland would do with it.
The wait is over. Paramount Pictures has unveiled the first teaser trailer for Annihilation and it finds Natalie Portman leading an expedition into the unknown to answer a million questions she has in terms of what happened to her husband.
Portman is part of the twelfth expedition sent into what is called Area X on behalf of the elusive “Southern Reach” group. Some news about previous trips: The second one ended in a mass suicide, the third group was gunned down by each other and the most recent one, the eleventh, returned as a group of damaged souls, eventually all falling to cancer.
Annihilation also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tessa Thompson, Gina Rodriguez, Tuva Novotny and Ex Machina veteran Oscar Isaac. Look for the thriller to spook you silly on February 23, 2018.
