Hot on the heels of the Black Mass poster that debuted yesterday, Warner Bros. has premiered the film’s latest trailer. With it, our anticipation for the latest from Johnny Depp has gone through the roof.
Depp stars as James “Whitey” Bulger, the most notorious Boston gangster to ever rule Bean Town’s streets with an iron fist. The superstar completely transformed himself to play the kingpin and from this trailer alone, we think he has to be a lock for an Oscar nomination.
It was not too long ago (before Pirates of the Caribbean made him a blockbuster movie star), that Depp was known more for indie drama that the Academy likes. We think Black Mass should more than remind voters why they’ve already nominated him once before!
The Black Mass trailer also teases why the biopic is one of fall’s most anticipated — the cast! Scott Cooper directs Benedict Cumberbatch, Jesse Plemons, Kevin Bacon, Joel Edgerton, Dakota Johnson, Juno Temple, Adam Scott, Rory Cochrane and Corey Stoll.
Bulger went from street thug to ruling the streets in a short period of time, and some say it was the FBI that allowed him to do it. The Movie Mensch cannot wait to see how this story plays out when Black Mass hits screens September 18.
