After the Oscar winning triumph of Zero Dark Thirty, where does director Kathryn Bigelow shine her camera on next? How about the riotous streets of 1967 Detroit?!
As residents of the Motor City took to the streets to protest the state of civil rights in this country, a fuse was light and what started out peacefully enough quickly turned into one of the darker moments in United States history.
Bigelow’s Detroit tackles the true story of one aspect of what happened during those fateful days in the late sixties.
Detroit features an impressive ensemble cast, led by John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Anthony Mackie, Jason Mitchell, Will Poulter, Algee Smith, Jacob Latimore, Hannah Murray, Ben O’Toole, Ephraim Sykes, Nathan Davis Jr., John Krasinski and Kris Davis.
The film is written by Mark Boal, who won an Oscar for his work penning Zero Dark Thirty for Bigelow.
Bigelow’s latest will land to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the riots. Look for the powerful drama to arrive in theaters on August 4.
