It’s rare in the video game to big screen leap that a first trailer would be a red band trailer, but that is exactly what we’ve got with the reboot of the R-rated Mortal Kombat.
The video game franchise that has enthralled hundreds of millions of folks across the world is heading back to the big screen (and HBO Max, cause you know—pandemic). The record for a game to screen efforts is filled with mostly disappointments, but this one, well… this one looks promising.
Directed by Simon McQuoid, taking a script from Greg Russo and Dave Callaham, the wonder twins who gave us Wonder Woman 1984. Not surprising, there isn’t much known about the specifics of this world, even teased in this two-plus minute trailer. But that’s fine, simply seeing fans’ favorite characters in action will surely send many to the moon and back before all is said and done.
We meet many of the fan favorites, such as Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), Kano (Josh Lawson), Raiden (Tadanobu Asano), Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, and Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee).
Also, notable is the R-rating, there is a lot of blood and gore in this trailer, as it should be due to the game’s intense violence. No sense “PG-ing” it down… the fans would go crazy!
The Mortal Kombat trailer looks amazing. It literally pops off the screen and honestly, should look pretty good on your HBO Max, perhaps someday they will release it once again on the big screen where we all can enjoy it in its large-screen glory.
Look for it on HBO Max and some theaters on April 16.
