The latest trailer from Focus Features’ Promising Young Woman has arrived and it is out of this world. All that buzz that emerged out of Sundance, when the film bowed, is more than apt given what is teased in the film’s latest trailer.
Carey Mulligan has been getting a slew of Oscar buzz for her portrayal of a Promising Young Woman who takes the law into her own hands as she “calls out” men who take advantage of women. Mulligan is Cassie, who had a promising future until an event involving an overly aggressive male derailed it. Some could argue that she needs some psychological help. Others may watch this trailer and believe that she is doing the work that police and the system should have done. Either way, it looks to be an utter blast witnessing Cassie put some men in their place.
Those who have seen the film have said that it is one of those narratives where nothing is at it appears. Who doesn’t adore a story like that that keeps you guessing until the bitter end?
Promising Young Woman is written and directed by Emerald Fennell, the showrunner of Season Two of Killing Eve. For those who are begging Hollywood to put out original material instead of remakes, sequels, and films based on television classics, this has you written all over it.
The Sundance breakout will arrive in theaters on Christmas Day and also stars Alison Brie (The Rental), Bo Burnham (Eighth Grade), Max Greenfield (New Girl), Laverne Cox (Orange is the New Black), Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights), Adam Brody (The O.C.), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Superbad), Chris Lowell, Molly Shannon, Clancy Brown, and Sam Richardson.
