The Batman First Trailer: “This Guy is Crazy!”

At the first-ever “DC FanDome” event, the DC Comics world has been lighting up the interwebs with its reveals and news, most notably our first look at Matt Reeves’ The Batman. The first trailer for this fresh take on one of the world’s most beloved superheroes stars Robert Pattinson and this teaser is our first real opportunity to not only see him in the suit but also his take on the part of this endeavor that has been known to trip up previous actors who suit up—being Bruce Wayne.

Reeves is the helmer that gave us the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes. I have the ultimate of faith in him to deliver not only a Batman film that is worth heading into the Batcave again but to gift the world a motion picture that delivers the most breathtaking action sequences coupled with an emotive tether that makes the entire film experience resonate.

Besides checking out Pattinson as the Dark Knight, we also get our first look at Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) as the iconic lawman, Jim Gordon. Although brief, viewers also scored a look at Zoe Kravitz and her Catwoman.

All told, this is an impressive trailer. First, the use of Nirvana’s Something in the Way is a fantastic choice of sonic succulence to accompany Reeves’ latest. We also get a solid introduction to Paul Dano’s The Riddler. Looks like he chose a different route (thankfully) than what Jim Carrey delivered as the character all those years ago. We still have one more villain to meet, as Colin Farrell’s Penguin still has to be revealed. Which is fine, we can wait. There’s enough to chew on with what Reeves gave us today!

The flick is still “in production,” and thanks to the Coronavirus, the set has been closed since early March. According to sources inside the WB, September looks to be the date listed as when The Batman resumes filmmaking.

As it stands now, The Batman is slated to hit theaters on October 1, 2021.
