Hamilton Trailer: Disney+ Making Millions of Dreams Come True

During the 2020 ESPYs this evening, viewers got an unexpected treat of the highest order—the trailer for the upcoming broadcast of the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Hamilton. This is the original cast, performing the show on a Broadway stage and filmed for broadcast on July 3. OK, you can close your mouth now … don’t want flies flying in, now do we?!

Hamilton on Disney+ was shot during the famed production’s award-winning run on Broadway and was then banked for a “rainy day.” Now, there will be a big-screen version of Hamilton that will be shot on location, etc. But until there is a vaccine to Covid-19, don’t expect that anytime soon—especially since creator Lin-Manuel Miranda has In The Heights coming out first from director Jon M. Chu.

The arrival of the trailer for Hamilton on Disney+ sent longtime fanatics into a frenzy. For those who haven’t had an opportunity to see the history lesson meets Broadway musical classic, this is as close as we are going to get, again especially in the age of Corona.

As the teaser teases, Hamilton tells the story of the man and the myth and combines hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and the Broadway musical milieu as it chronicles the life story of one of our country’s founding fathers.

Hamilton on Disney+ was shot at The Richard Rodgers Theatre in June of 2016 and brings to life the incredible gift that Miranda brings to the production as a writer, composer, actor, and director. The production famously won 11 Tony Awards, as well as nabbing a few Grammy and Olivier Awards.

It features Miranda as the titular character, as well as Daveed Diggs (Blindspotting) as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler; Jonathan Groff as King George; Christopher Jackson as George Washington; Jasmine Cephas Jones as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds; Miranda as Alexander Hamilton; Leslie Odom, Jr. as Aaron Burr; Okieriete Onaodowan as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison; Anthony Ramos as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton; and Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton.

What a way to celebrate our nation’s birth as Hamilton premieres on the Disney streaming service on July 3.
