The King of Staten Island Trailer: Judd Apatow & Pete Davidson Get (Hilariously) Personal

The first trailer for The King of Staten Island has landed from Universal Pictures. The flick comes from the comedic minds of two wildly different funnymen—Judd Apatow and Pete Davidson.

Apatow (Bridesmaids, Trainwreck, Knocked Up, The 40-Year Old Virgin) and Davidson (SNL, the recently released Big Time Adolescence) joined forces to bring the semi-autobiographical story of Davidson to life.

Given the great job Apatow did bringing Amy Schumer’s extremely personal Trainwreck to screens, we are high on the chances that The King of Staten Island will hit all the right notes. Davidson has quite the personal tale to tell, so that aspect should also make for great cinema.

Given the COVID-19 outbreak, as all of us keenly know, theaters are (mostly) still closed. So look for Apatow and Davidson’s flick to land in our living rooms June 12 on VOD.

Davidson co-wrote the script with Apatow and David Sirus.

In The King of Staten Island, Davidson portrays a version of himself who is a twenty-something named Scott who hasn’t exactly been blazing any kind of trail since his father died when he was seven. When his mother (Morisa Tomei) finds happiness with a brash firefighter (played by Bill Burr), suddenly the reality of losing his father and how life has moved on (without him) hits him firmly in the face.

The flick also stars Ricky Velez, Bel Powley, Pamela Adlon, Maude Apatow, Lou Wilson, and Steve Buscemi.
