The Last Dance Trailer Teases Michael Jordan/Chicago Bulls Documentary

With the world stuck at home and a public hungry for sports and original content, ESPN wisely decided to move up the premiere date of one of their most anticipated projects. The Last Dance chronicles the Chicago Bulls of the 90s and its race towards its sixth, and final, NBA championship title. To mark that move, the sports network unveiled a new trailer and extended footage that has us drooling with anticipation for this latest doc from ESPN.

Michael Jordan and his Chicago Bulls were one of the most dominant sports team in any sport … ever. It was a challenge for coach Phil Jackson, who not only had the best player in the world on his team, but a wickedly talented group that bustled with enormous egos and troubled souls alike. How that all was managed lay largely on Jackson’s shoulders, but as the trailer teases, this was a group of players that embodied the entity that is a “team.”

The Last Dance will premiere on April 19 and the 10-part doc will pull back the curtain on one of the greatest sports dynasties of any time period. Originally, the flick was scheduled to premiere June 23 (around the time of the NBA finals). With the playoff schedule, heck all sports schedules, wiped clean until the Coronavirus pandemic is under control, it will be nice to (re)visit a sports team I adored and get the inside scoop on how their greatness was achieved and maintained.

The network released a statement, explaining why they moved up their doc.

“As society navigates this time without live sports, viewers are still looking to the sports world to escape and enjoy a collective experience. We’ve heard the calls from fans asking us to move up the release date for this series, and we’re happy to announce that we’ve been able to accelerate the production schedule to do just that. This project celebrates one of the greatest players and dynasties ever, and we hope it can serve as a unifying entertainment experience to fill the role that sports often play in our lives, telling a story that will captivate everyone, not just sports fans.”
