If you missed the Swedish comedy, Force Majeure, there is some good news. The Scandinavian flick was darkly comedic and divine through-and-through. Fox Searchlight has debuted the first trailer for the American remake, Downhill. It stars Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as a married couple with grown kids who take the entire clan overseas to the Alps for some titular activities and quality family fun time.
What ensues is anything but fun or quality time, and by the end of this vacation from hell, there might not even be a marriage.
The comedy shows what happens when the clan is having lunch outside and an avalanche starts burrowing down the mountain. Will grabs his phone and runs, while Julia covers up her son and daughter before realizing that the snow squall will peter out before it hits them at the chalet. As the clan take a moment to think about what just happened and the headline here is dad left us behind!
That action will reverberate throughout the holiday and raise a whole lot of questions.
The flick comes from the dynamite duo who wrote The Descendants—Nat Faxton and Jim Rash. They earned an Oscar for that flick, so anticipation for Downhill is quite high.
What great chemistry Ferrell and Dreyfus possess, and that comes through on a small trailer. Cannot imagine what their tete-a-tete will be like over 90 minutes.
It’ll premiere at the coveted 2020 Sundance Film Festival before landing on Valentine’s Day.
