Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker Final Trailer: The Force Will Be With You, Always

The final trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has landed, and it is an emotional experience to say the least. The Star Wars saga is coming to a close with this ninth picture in the series that started in 1977 by George Lucas. Since then, the Skywalker inhabited world has gone through much and it all comes down to this … whatever this is because frankly Disney and Lucasfilm have done a masterful job keeping a lid on the spoilers that always seem to emerge from every other film that tries to keep secrets.

J.J. Abrams’ is back behind the camera after the controversial (at least to some, not to this guy) last installment by Rian Johnson, Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Abrams wrote the script (with Chris Terrio) and sees the return of all our (new) favorites, including Daisy Ridley’s Rey, John Boyega’s Finn, Oscar Isaac’s Poe, Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose and of course our villain, Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren. Although she sadly perished a few years ago, Carrie Fisher is still slated to appear in this ninth Star Wars film, as is Mark Hamill (who supposedly “died” in the last flick), Billy Dee Williams is back as Lando Calrissian and although we’ve only heard his haunting laugh, it has been confirmed that Ian McDiarmid returned as Emperor Palpatine.

There’s a lot to digest in the above trailer, not the least of which are a few lines that caught my ear. Rey uttering that no one understands what she’s going through, then hearing Kylo say, “except me.” Now that could be an issue as each tries to convert the other … and there’s that whole scene where the two are wielding their light sabers together at a (for now) faceless foe.

Also got to love the horses (with tusks!) that the crew rides is pretty stellar, and hearing Hamill and Fisher complete each other’s sentence with the iconic line, “The Force will be with you … always.” Cue the misty eyes!

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker lands in theaters December 20 (tickets went on sale today) and also stars Keri Russell (of The Americans fame), as well as Richard E. Grant and returning stars Domhnall Gleeson and Lupita Nyong’o.
