For fans of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats, the news today that the film’s first trailer has arrived is probably an announcement that they never could admit would see the light of day. It has and has brought along a stellar ensemble worthy of a show that was one of the longest running in Broadway history.
Besides a cast that is to die for, the film comes from director Tom Hooper (Oscar for The King’s Speech)—who could not have been a better choice to bring the stage icon to the silver screen. After all, this is the guy who brought Les Misérables to life and helped Anne Hathaway win an Oscar for the flick!
The most famous of the songs on the musical’s soundtrack has to be Memories. The marketing folks at Universal wisely put that track front and center in this teaser, breaking away for a little song and dance magic from James Corden before amping up the emotive power and bringing Jennifer Hudson to sing the “from the heart” part of that legendary song.
Oh, that cast I was speaking of … besides Corden and Hudson, Taylor Swift (playing a cat… how did she not explode!), Judi Dench, Jason Derulo, Idris Elba, Ian McKellen, Francesca Hayward and Rebel Wilson.
Look for Cats to be the hot musical movie ticket this Christmas when it hit theaters December 20.
