Maleficent Mistress of Evil Trailer: Angelina Jolie v. Michelle Pfeiffer

The latest Maleficent: Mistress of Evil trailer appears to be setting up a showdown between two titanic actresses where the victor will clearly be audiences. Angelina Jolie stars as the titular character once again (with Elle Fanning once again playing Aurora) and in the sequel the Sleeping Beauty villain has her hands full.

Not only with a daughter who wishes to marry (against her winged adoptive mother’s wishes), but has to face off with a potential mother-in-law in Pfeiffer’s Queen who has had more than enough of the evil doer’s ways.

2014’s Maleficent introduced us to the other side of the Disney animated fairy tale in a role that Jolie was born to play. She was misunderstood, to put it mildly. This time out, it appears that we go deeper into the origins story of the villain and the world she inhabits.

Never in a million years did I think that the first hit film deserved a sequel, but then again with everything getting a sequel now-a-days, I should have seen this coming. That being said, this looks quite compelling and nothing sets off cinematic fireworks like two supreme actresses working at the top of their game.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil hits theaters October 18 and brings back Sam Riley as her hench-crow, Juno Temple, Lesley Manville, Harris Dickinson, Ed Skrein, Imelda Staunton and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
