Ewan McGregor has “The Shining” and it hasn’t left his character since that fateful time at the Overlook Hotel. The events of Doctor Sleep pick up four decades after the tragedy that Danny Torrance had to endure with his out-of-his-mind father (played iconically by Jack Nicholson).
There are many things to digest here for longtime Shining fans. First of all, there is a whole lot of flashing back utilizing some legendry images from the Stanley Kubrick film, as well as both books by Stephen King, The Shining and Doctor Sleep. Basically, so far … so good. We’re all-in for this puppy.
McGregor’s Torrance has a protégé, a special child named Abra (Kyliegh Curran). She turns to her mentor when a group of vampiric group who call themselves The True Knot, approach—feeding on the shine of innocents. Again… all in!
Doctor Sleep also stars Bruce Greenwood, Jocelin Donahue, Zahn McClarnon, Carl Lumbly and Alex Essoe and lands in theaters November 8.
