The Art of Racing in the Rain Trailer: Kevin Costner Goes to the Dogs

The first trailer for the film The Art of Racing in the Rain has landed, and it has given us all sorts of “the feels.” Kevin Costner stars as the voice of Enzo, a dog that has got a pretty extraordinary life with his best friend/owner, Denny Swift (This is Us’ Milo Ventimiglia).

Denny has a dream, to be a Formula One racecar driver. That aspiration requires a lot of sacrifice and hard work, all experience through the eyes of his dog for the viewer. It’s a fascinating take on a story like this and it is based on a bestseller of the same name.

Although it has levels of inspiration strewn throughout the trailer, one has to wonder if it possesses the same DNA as the film it’s being compared to in the teaser above. It firmly states, “from the same studio that brought you Marley and Me.” Yeah, I remember absolutely ugly crying during that Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston starring flick. Not that that is a bad thing, right?!

The film is helmed by someone whose name alone gets me in the building, Simon Curtis (My Week with Marilyn). It also stars the always awesome Amanda Seyfried (last seen in Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again), Kathy Baker, Martin Donovan and Ryan Kiera Armstrong.

Look for Art of Racing in the Rain in theaters August 9.
