Sonic the Hedgehog Trailer: Flick Should Have Been Made Decades Ago!

Sonic the Hedgehog has finally given us something to appraise when it comes to the video game turned cinematic spectacle. Our first impression: Sadly, this thing looks terrible.

The video game, that became a sensation upon its 1991 release, looks to add its name to the dumpster fire that is a majority of movies that have been inspired by video games that were simply horrible. First of all … what took so long? Are audiences even interested in a live action (with heavy CGI, of course) of a 28-year-old property? That will be a question that will not remotely have an answer until the flick lands in theaters November 8.

Paramount Pictures is the studio behind the effort and with this first video look at the upcoming movie, we get our first look at Sonic the Hedgehog himself, as well as our villain. Jim Carrey was tapped to portray the evil Dr. Robotnik and Ben Schwartz voices the titular character.

The trailer also teases a bit of the plot as one of our favorite video game protagonists team up with his human buddy, Tom (a San Francisco police officer)—who is voiced by James Marsden, to save the world. Of course, they’re going to save the world, what else would they do … I mean really?!

One can argue for days about the look of Sonic (like, how does he have such human looking teeth?), as well as Carrey’s look and how this character appears to be one that will either be firmly up the actor’s alley or have him undertaking a role that will go down as his worst. I really feel that there is no middle ground here with the Carrey role.

Sonic the Hedgehog also stars Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally and Neal McDonough.
