Ma Trailer Shows Off the Scary Side of Octavia Spencer!

The first trailer for Blumhouse and Universal’s Ma has arrived, and it did something that I never thought possible. It has made Octavia Spencer utterly terrifying!

The Oscar winner stars as the titular character. She seems innocent enough. Ma (what she wants to be called) is asked by a group of teenagers to buy them booze. Well, she does them one better—why not come over to my house and party in my basement. That’s safe and that way you’re not out drinking in parks or worse, in a car. They take her up on the offer and for a while, it is pure party bliss.

Then, Ma gets a little possessive and a little creepy and a little weird and a little… homicidal?

What is so fantastic about this film, at from what we can discern from the trailer, is that it not not only made Spencer spooky as hell, but that the film comes from her director of The Help! Tate Taylor helms the project and considering the job he did on The Girl on the Train, we think his reuniting with Spencer should add up to something sensationally spooky.

Ma also stars Juliette Lewis, Luke Evans, Diana Silvers, Missi Pyle, McKaley Miller, and Dante Brown. Ma opens up her “hospitality” in theaters on May 31.
