Yesterday Trailer: Danny Boyle Wonders: What if The Beatles Didn’t Exist?

Imagine a world where Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr never got together, and The Beatles failed to be. That would be my definition of a horror movie. But it is the premise of a musical comedy from famed director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours) and screenwriter Richard Curtis (Love Actually, Pirate Radio).

The premise is that a chap named Jack Malik (Himesh Patel), who is trying his best to make it as a singer-songwriter. One day, a bus accident causes a global blackout. Everyone awakes the next day and poof! The only person who remembers those four lads from Liverpool is Malik.

What’s a fellow to do? Well, pull up a chair and play the piano and introduce the world to the Beatles songbook that has to see the light of day. After all, the music changed the world once… why not again with Malik as the creative vessel to deliver its magic.

Jack is immediately, like overnight, catapulted to international fame and that cases tension with his closest friend Ellie (Lily James), who fears that she may lose him to international acclaim. I sense a love interest!!

Universal Pictures released the new trailer and I cannot wait to see this wildly inventive film that we already know has the soundtrack to beat in 2019.

One thing I notice in the trailer is there is a tinge of guilt in Jack, after all he is making it big off of someone else’s work and he knows it. But what can be done. This music needs to be out there…
