The first trailer for Tolkien has arrived from Fox Searchlight (who is celebrating their 25th anniversary—where did the time go?!). The story follows the early days (before he started writing iconic stories) of J.R.R. Tolkien.
Nicholas Hoult portrays the enigmatic writer and explores his early years during school and wartime, both would shape his imagination that would eventually create the world where wizards, hobbits and orcs inhabit the landscape. After witnessing They Shall Not Grow Old, I can see how World War I could change a man forever, and it appears from the teaser below, that is exactly what happened to Tolkien. Those vivid battle sequences in his novels… things he saw firsthand.
It’s a fascinating first look and I am completely compelled. Hoult is a terrific actor and Lily Collins portraying his love interest is impeccable casting.
