Shaft Trailer: Three Times the Damn Right!

Back in 2000, I’ll never forget heading into the theaters to witness Samuel L. Jackson revive the entity that is Shaft. Richard Roundtree (the original bad ass) was in the film as Jackson’s uncle—so it only makes sense that a 2019 revival of the series that has been asleep for almost two decades would add another generation. Yup, we’ve got three times the bad ass-ery.

The first trailer for Shaft has debuted and it’s encouraging on several fronts.

The director is Tim Story (Ride Along), who knows a thing or two about directing the police or private-dick related story with a splash of humor. Secondly, having Jackson and Roundtree back together is always a good thing, and adding Shaft’s son (played by Jessie T. Usher) into the mix has got to add up to something truly special.

The iconic blaxploitation hero is back and from the looks of things, ready to bring a franchise into the future. See, JJ, aka John Shaft, Jr. is a MIT graduate who is a cybersecurity aficionado. The case the trio is tasked with is personal, Jr.’s best friend died under mysterious circumstances. The Shaft boys seeking justice and revenge? Yeah, this could be great.

Also starring in the June 14 arriving actioner is one of our favorite actresses, Regina Hall, and Alexandra Shipp (X-Men: Apocalypse) and Cliff Smith, aka Method Man!

The script comes to us from the writers of two of our fave sitcoms currently airing on ABC, The Goldbergs’ Alex Barnow and Black-ish’s Kenya Barris.
