Paramount Pictures has unveiled the latest look at the Stephen King’s beloved novel of the same name. The book and the 80s movie had one thing congruent—the death of the family’s youngest child that spurs an avalanche of terror. This 2019 movie makes one enormous change—the oldest daughter is the one who perishes tragically and is buried in the title land in an effort to bring her back to horrific results.
It’s an interest twist change from the original source material. I like it when a remake takes risks, and this certainly can be described as that. With the older child being the one “back from the dead,” it adds layers to the horror, I believe, that a slightly more mature actor can bring, versus that of a young child. That’s just me, I’m sure many would disagree and it certain is causing quite a bit of stir among movie journalists.
Directors Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer helm the new project that stars Jason Clarke as the doctor who flees Boston for a “quiet” life in Maine and John Lithgow as the neighbor with a haunting past who turns him on to the titular Pet Sematary.
The film also stars Amy Seimetz and will premiere in theaters April 5.
