Back in 2012, Harmony Korine released a little movie called Spring Breakers and it landed on my top 12 of 2012 that year. His follow-up is six years in the making, and we have the first trailer for it. The Beach Bum stars Matthew McConaughey as the titular character, aka Moondog.
Moondog is a Miami staple, who is living life as high as he can be and as free spirited as is allowed by law. Well, let’s be real… he knows nothing of that law line and pushes the boundaries of everything he can, working as a stoner poet for the Miami masses.
As is the case with Spring Breakers, Korine’s palette is neon-soaked in Miami sun and it could not be more gorgeous. Cannot wait for this latest from the auteur that also stars Zac Efron, Snoop Dogg, Isla Fisher, Jonah Hill and Martin Lawrence.
This is not simply a tale of a man on a drug and alcohol induced bender, this has redemption written all over it. Those are the best kinds of stoner comedies, the ones with insight into the human condition who uses its protagonist as a vessel for societal truths.
