Ghostbusters Sequel Teaser: Jason Reitman Steps Into Father’s Franchise

The cat is out of the bag as the secret Ghostbusters sequel that Sony had green-lit is starting to take shape. For starters, they have released a teaser that reveals the what appears to be a new incarnation of the Ecto-1.

Secondly, we now know that original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman’s son, Jason Reitman, is co-writing and helming a sequel that looks to follow-up the events of Ghostbusters 2. What is not known is if the original cast members will be involved—Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, sadly Harold Ramis passed away. Another thing known is that the events of the younger Reitman’s Ghostbusters will ignore the Paul Feig directed, all-female Ghostbusters.

Look for casting news and perhaps a plot point or two in the coming weeks and months as shooting gets started. Now, this isn’t a surprise movie, a la Cloverfield that debuted on Netflix hours after its trailer appeared during the Super Bowl. But, a surprise still the same. No one in the world thought that anything was going on in the franchise of Ghostbusters, so this is somewhat shocking. Fans of the series should be good that it is remaining in the Reitman family, but at the same time, what are we in for?

Look for, what is being called Ghostbusters 3, in the summer of 2020.
