Rocketman Trailer: Taron Egerton Channels Sir Elton John

The first trailer for Rocketman has landed from Paramount Pictures and the first thing that hit me was the casting. Taron Egerton (Kingsman and the upcoming Robin Hood) could not have been a better choice to portray the legendary rocker who has an insanely rich history that should make for one rocking good biopic.

Just like Rami Malek was an impeccable choice to tackle Freddie Mercury for Bohemian Rhapsody, so too is Egerton. Now that the first teaser for the upcoming flick that hits theaters on May 31, 2019 has landed, we get to get past the “oh he looks like Elton” chat and dive into the fact that Egerton carries himself like John, sings like John and even has the cadence of speaking nailed like the Bennie and the Jets singer.

Speaking of stellar casting, how’s this for nailing it? Bryce Dallas Howard is set to portray Elton’s mum. There is nothing Ron Howard’s daughter cannot do, am I right?!

The story should be extra fascinating because it’s told in a fantasy-type manner which should give other run-of-the-mill biopics a run for their money. If anyone deserves an out-of-the-box look at their astounding life, it is Sir Elton.

Rocketman will chronicle John’s early years from the Royal Academy of Music through his onslaught of fame, drug addiction and his prolific partnership with lyricist Bernie Taupin.

The movie also stars Jamie Bell, Gemma Jones, Richard Madden and is directed by Dexter Fletcher.
