Bumblebee Trailer: Every Epic Has a Beginning (It Has To, Right?!)

One of the biggest takeaways from the first teaser trailer for Paramount’s Bumblebee is that the titular robot alien does not like Rick Asley. Like seriously, he’s not Never Gonna Give You Up for nothin’.

Michael Bay’s has taken us to the 80s to explore the beginnings of the Autobot arrival in our lives on Earth.

Who knew that it would be in the form of the adorable, yellow, Bumblebee?

It does make the most sense. After all, that character was our vehicle in (see what we did there!) to the story in the first Transformers movie. So, why not delve deeper into the robot car’s past and determine how this whole universe got started.

Why now, right? I mean, it’s not like the work in the present is going very well to the tune of billions of dollars!

Travis Knight makes his live action debut in this initial spinoff. The CEO of LAIKA seems an interesting choice, especially since running his studio and giving us gems like Two Strings might seemingly keep him busy. But, one always needs to stretch one’s wings.

Bumblebee stars Hailee Steinfeld, and takes place in the 80s, and we’re told that the tale will be much more small scale (for a Transformers movie at least) and feel more about the growth of a teenage girl and her new automotive companion.

On paper, this is promising. Steinfeld is an enigmatic presence on the screen (Edge of Seventeen, anyone?!) and Knight certainly knows how to film beautiful pictures and emit emotions with the best of them.

The Transformers prequel hits theaters December 21 and also stars Martin Short, John Cena, Kenneth Choi, Pamela Adlon and Megan Pryce.
