Matthew McConaughey is set to dazzle is once again in another period piece that is based on a true story, White Boy Rick. After winning an Oscar in the real life tale Dallas Buyers Club, could another nod be in his future with this September 21 release?
McConaughey stars as an mid-80s Detroit, Michigan based father who is doing the best he can to raise his kids in a city hit hard by unemployment and lack of opportunity. His son, Rick (Richie Merritt), would become one of the youngest drug dealers and burgeoning kingpins in the city’s history, and eventually would also become an informant for the U.S. government.
Watch the White Boy Rick trailer below and prepare to be stunned that this all really happened. And yes, be ready to be moved once again by Mr. McConaughey as he transforms himself once again in a way that only he can.
The film is helmed by ’71 director Yann Demange and from the looks of things, this gritty true tale should garner a whole lot of attention. It is produced by Darren Aronofsky also is also filled out by a decorated cast, including Jennifer Jason Leigh, Rory Cochrane, Bruce Dern, Piper Laurie, Brian Tyree Henry, RJ Cyler, Jonathan Majors and Eddie Marsan.
