One of my favorite shows back in the day was Alias. Since it went off the air, I have long wondered when star Jennifer Garner was going to embrace her ass-kicking self and return to the genre that made her famous. Now, we have our answer as the trailer for Peppermint has landed.
Garner stars as a mother of a little girl and a happily married wife. One day, a series of suspects murder her husband and daughter and leave her gasping for life. She makes it, thinks she is going to get justice in court and as the trailer teases below, they walk due to “corrupt judges and corrupt cops.” What’s a mom to do?
How about disappear for five years, train yourself to be the most lethal of killers, return to your hometown and wage a vengeance battle against those who did it and everyone they know in the ultimate showcase of justice.
STX Entertainment presents Peppermint, which could be a new John Wick style franchise for Garner and we couldn’t more excited for her. It’s about damn time!
An added plus? The film comes from Pierre Morel, the director of one of the best action thrillers of the last 15 years, Taken.
We mention John Wick because this film has that feel, but it also has elements of Morel’s Taken throughout it as well. As in, “don’t mess with my family or I will seriously mess you up.” We like that combination and think that the hybrid of the two, plus the screen presence of Garner should stack up to a lethal combination when Peppermint hits theaters September 7.
Peppermint also stars Method Man, John Ortiz, John Gallagher Jr., Juan Pablo Raba, Richard Cabral and Annie Ilonzeh.
