The international trailer for Midnight Special has landed online and it is the most stunning of all the teases for the latest from filmmaker Jeff Nichols (Mud, Take Shelter).
The writer-director’s latest reunites him with Take Shelter star Michael Shannon as the Oscar nominee portrays a father who is trying to get his son to safety. The thing is, this is no ordinary father-son road trip movie.
Alton (Jaeden Lieberher) has special powers and although his father Roy has no idea what exactly they are and what purpose they serve, he knows that his son has a purpose and he will go to the ends of the earth to find out what it is to protect his boy and to have him fulfill his destiny.
Along the way, he gets help from his longtime friend Lucas (Joel Edgerton), a Texas State Trooper who believes in the boy as well.
Chasing them is the federal government (led by Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Adam Driver), because they think he is dangerous and could be used as a weapon. Also hunting the child down is a religious extremist (led by Sam Shepard), who believes the boy is their savior.
Kirsten Dunst also stars in the sci-fi thriller. Don’t miss Midnight Special in theaters March 18.
