The Revenant, The Martian Win Big at Golden Globes

Host Ricky Gervais has insulted the best of them and all the Golden Globes have been passed out and the films that seem to have done the best is the Leonardo DiCaprio starring The Revenant and the Matt Damon starring The Martian.

There were a few surprises over the course of the evening during the award show that honors both television and film. One had to be the victory for Steve Jobs scribe Aaron Sorkin. The film was an astounding bomb at the theaters and Universal famously pulled it from thousands of theaters, seemingly giving up on the flick and its chance for award season gold.

The other surprise was for a reason that had nothing to do with quality. Certainly The Martian deserved to win for Best Picture… but for Musical or Comedy? We’re not sure what is so funny about the film! And Matt Damon (deservedly) won Best Actor, but in a Musical or Comedy? Puzzling!

But what it does do is set up a potential clash of two titans for Academy gold, The Martian and The Revenant.

Other victories that had us cheering: Brie Larson for Room and Sylvester Stallone for Creed. The response of both from the crowd at the Beverly Hilton was immense.

Oscar nominations come out this Thursday for the granddaddy of them all.
