Hot on the heels of the SAG Nominations, The Golden Globe nominations were announced this morning and leading the way was Carol with five nominations. Close behind with four nominations each was Steve Jobs, The Big Short and The Revenant.
Although the Golden Globes have been known to have little bearing on Oscar results, it is a fun night where Hollywood’s biggest stars have a few drinks and provide us one of the more entertaining award shows of the season. What else sets it apart is how there is a Best Comedy or Musical category, which this year allowed Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck and Melissa McCarthy’s Spy to pick up nominations (well deserved).
But, The Martian getting a Best Picture, Comedy or Musical? Sure, the Matt Damon movie is worthy of a Best Picture nod in any universe, just not as a comedy? HFPA, did you see Ridley Scott’s movie?
Other notable nominations for The Movie Mensch include Sylvester Stallone for Creed, Paul Dano for playing Brian Wilson in Love & Mercy and Alicia Vikander, a well-deserved nod for her star-making turn in Ex Machina.
Ricky Gervais has been tapped to host the show on January 10, so that will be entertaining as well.
What does it all mean in terms of the overall Oscar race? Check out our Oscar Watch and see!
