There is something about Massachusetts-set maritime rescue stories that get us. Sure, it’s a pretty narrow genre, but The Perfect Storm is just heartbreaking, no matter how many times you watch it. Now that we’re getting a first look at The Finest Hours from Disney, we think we have another to add to our list of true tales of rescue at sea bravery.
Chris Pine plays the leader of a crack U.S. Coast Guard unit who embarked on the fabled service’s most dangerous mission ever in 1952 in the seas off of Cape Cod to true to save all the souls on a tanker ship that was caught in a storm that threatened to put it at the bottom of the sea.
Look for The Finest Hours, which also stars Casey Affleck, Ben Foster, John Ortiz, Eric Bana and Holliday Grainger, on January 29.
