The full-length trailer for Creed has arrived, and The Movie Mensch is a little surprised at how much we are looking forward to this Rocky spin-off.
Sylvester Stallone is back as Rocky Balboa, and we meet the former boxing champ living peacefully in his hometown of Philadelphia as a restaurant owner when he gets a fateful call. His old friend (and rival) Apollo Creed’s son (Michael B. Jordan) has landed in jail. Rocky sees something in the young kid who seems to enjoy fighting a little too much in places where he shouldn’t, i.e. anywhere but inside a ring.
So, Rocky takes the young Creed under his wing and together they might find Rocky back on the professional boxing map.
Creed is directed by the helmer of Fruitvale Station (also starring Jordan) and also stars Phylicia Rashad as Mary Anne Creed, Apollo’s widow; and English pro boxer and former three-time ABA Heavyweight Champion Anthony Bellew as boxing champ “Pretty” Ricky Conlan.
Look for Creed on November 25.
